All the Answers You Need

WHAT IS YOUR AVAILABILITY & CLIENTS YOU WORK WITH?

I am currently accepting new adult clients for individual one-on-one counselling. * I do not provide counselling support for couples or or youth.

In-person sessions are available on Tuesday through Friday, every second Saturday, and are held at Nourish Wellness located at 1822 Comox Avenue Upstairs Unit C.

Virtual or Walk&Talk sessions are available Tuesday through Friday.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOR MY INITIAL SESSION WITH YOU?

This is really important question... If we are meeting in-person, I will come out to greet you in the waiting room area and offer you a warm cup of tea or water to welcome you and give you some time to get settled in our counselling space. When you are ready, we will begin with reviewing the Informed Consent form you signed prior to our session to ensure you understand your rights as a client in a way that makes sense to you. It is vital you make an informed choice to participate in therapy with me and I take this very seriously.

Once we answered any questions you might have, I will invite you to check in with your system and take a mindful moment to arrive, noticing what you are feeling, nerves/excitement etc and acknowledging the presence of these parts of you. When you feel ready, I will invite you to share as much or as little as you want about your inner world, your life experiences, and what led you to seek counselling support at this time.

Something to keep in mind: Our initial session together is oriented as a reciprocal screening process. Basically, you are trying to decide if I am someone you feel you can connect with --both personably and approach wise, and I will be asking questions to gain clarity on what is challenging you, how it is impacting your day to day, how you cope with these challenges, and learning what resources you have to navigate these challenges. Because we have just met and have not had the chance to build and establish trust between us, it vital that you are aware you are under no obligation to answer any of my questions. If I pose a question you are not ready to disclose or discuss, it is important that you feel comfortable to say: "I am not willing to discuss that yet".

I will do my best to let you know when we have approximately 10 minutes remaining so that you may gauge what direction to take and begin preparing yourself for the end of our time together. At the end of our time I will take a few minutes to share my approach and give you a chance to ask any questions you might have.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME? HOW LONG WILL THE PROCESS TAKE?

Approaching the creation of meaningful change is a unique and personal process that depends on many factors. Ultimately, only you can determine what that will look like.

It is important to note that creating change takes time. Despite the overwhelming sense of urgency that our minds have in wanting to change things, we actually have to SLOW things down in order to safely allow for the integration of the changes we are looking to make. SLOW is FAST and consistency is shown to be the most valuable component.

Many people choose to initiate the counselling experience on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to start and then adjust according to their integration.

CANCELLATION POLICY?

I understand that things come up, that life sometimes gets away on us, however, your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in my day that could have been filled by helping another client in need of support. As such, I request that you communicate clearly if you are not able to attend your reserved session by giving 48 hours notice. If you do not give this notice, you will be charged the full amount of your session time. Let’s work to hold ourselves accountable with integrity.

INVESTMENT COST AND PAYMENT OPTIONS?

Please reach out by emailing: counsellorbailey@gmail.com to inquire about my rates which are in line with the BCACC suggested rate for counsellors.

I accept e-transfer PRIOR to session start time which is my preferred payment method, however, you may also use a credit card, or credit-debit card which can be securely stored and processed on your client profile.

Once payment is received, I will provide you with a receipt for your extended health care plans and tax purposes with my information and RCC membership #

WHAT DOES VIRTUAL REMOTE THERAPY LOOK LIKE?

Meeting virtually is an immensely powerful way to work whereby the intersubjective field is just as impactful as if we were in the same room. The Jane App is the PIPA compliant virtual setting we will be using for our online sessions. This is to ensure your privacy and confidentiality are secured with the utmost integrity and protection.

Virtual sessions require that you also have the space and privacy to meet alone without distractions as best you are able.

Once your virtual telehealth session is booked, you will receive a confirmation email with a secure link to our online meeting room space approximately 30 minutes before your session is scheduled to begin. Please click on the link a few minutes prior so that you are in the virtual waiting room, ready to go on-time.

WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH WALK & TALK THERAPY?

Where do sessions take place?

  • Walk & Talk Therapy takes place outdoors in local nature parks with clearly outlined and maintained trails. Your therapist will review specific information about where you will be going prior to each session.

Is Walk&Talk Therapy considered exercise?

  • While movement may be a benefit to clients physically, the focus is not about exercise. Prior to engaging in Walk and Talk Therapy, clients will be in good physical condition and do not suffer from any known disability or condition which would prevent or limit their participation in Walk and Talk Therapy.

  • Clients will take full responsibility for their medical and physical well-being during each session.

How does confidentiality work while we are outside?

  • Participating in Walk and Talk Therapy and being out in public involves some limits to confidentiality, including the possibility that other people may hear parts of our conversation. Your therapist will do everything that they can to protect your confidentiality during Walk and Talk Therapy sessions.

  • If you choose to participate in Walk and Talk Therapy, you and your therapist will discuss any concerns and how you would prefer to handle potential risks to confidentiality.

  • You may change your mind at any point in the session and can return to the office.

What are some known risks with Walk&Talk Therapy?

  • Although this is not exercise or workout training, Walk and Talk therapy may involve strenuous physical activity including, but not limited to, cardiovascular activity.

  • Aside from the limits to confidentiality outlined above, outdoor environments also contain a variety of hazards which include traffic, insects, and slippery walking surfaces.
